Tax Payment Information

It is recommended that you utilize the following methods to make your quarterly property tax payment:

1. Mail in Checks:

You can mail in your check or drop off your check using the drop box mailbox at the front door of Town Hall, which is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please include your tax stub with your check in a sealed envelope. If you do not have your tax stub, please include your block and lot, account number and/or property address.

Checks should be payable to the “Township of River Vale.”  Please DO NOT leave any cash in the tax payment drop box.  If mailing your payment and you would like a receipt, please include your entire tax bill with a self-addressed, stamped envelope or provide us with your email address.

Post-Dated Checks:  By statute, our office is required to deposit payments as soon as they are received and we cannot accept “post-dated” checks. Therefore, please date your check the day you write it out, just as you would if you were paying in person.

2. Online Bill Pay from your bank:

Please be aware payments that you initiate with your own bank through online bill pay should be scheduled in advance of any due date to allow a sufficient number of mailing days for the Township to receive, process and apply the payment to your account. Bank payments made from online bill pay are sent through the mail. The Township is not responsible for late payments due to delays in mail service or bank processing. Please include your Block and Lot, Last name and/or property address in order for us to apply the payment to the correct account.

3. Electronic Check or Credit Card:

You can now look up current property taxes, account history and pay current taxes online. One-time payments can be made online with a credit card, debit card or e-check. To access the application, use the following link; River Vale Taxes

The following payment types are accepted online only:

  • Visa

  • MasterCard

  • Pin Debit

Please note that you will be charged a convenience fee for paying online as follows:
E-check:   $1.50 flat fee per transaction
Debit or credit cards:   2.65% of payment

NOTE:  Properties on Tax Sale are not able to make website payments.

4. Direct Debit - ACH/Direct Withdrawal

The Tax Collector’s Office now offers an Automated Clearing House (ACH) bank draft program (direct withdrawal) to our taxpayers. This service assures your payment will be received in a timely manner as well as providing a safe and secure way to pay your taxes without the worry of mail delivery or coming to pay in person.

Fee Schedule - Quarterly property tax payments as billed will be debited from your checking account on the payment due dates of February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1. We do not draft from savings or equity accounts. You may enroll or cancel at any time, provided a completed authorization form is received at least four weeks prior to the scheduled draft dates.

Sign Up - If you would like to enroll in this program, please complete the Authorization Form (PDF) and return it to the Tax Collector. Be sure to attach a voided check. Incomplete applications will delay enrollment.

Enrollment Deadlines - The last dates to enroll for ACH/Direct Withdrawal are as follows: January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.
