Tax Appeals

The NJ Division of Taxation has extended the deadline to file a 2020 tax appeal to July 1, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

***3/17/20 Please note that the Bergen County Board of Taxation is currently closed to the public due to the pandemic but still open and operational. They are still accepting and processing appeals via mail.  Please check County Tax Board webpage frequently for updates. The Clerk and Assessor copies of completed appeal forms may be mailed to 406 Rivervale Road, River Vale or dropped off in the vestibule in the front of Town Hall.


Assessment Appeals can be filed with the Bergen County Board of Taxation. Forms and instructions may be obtained by contacting the Board at:

If your assessed value exceeds $1,000,000, you have the option of filing your appeal directly with the Tax Court of New Jersey. Information for filing a complaint with the Tax Court may be obtained by contacting the Court at:

Assessments appeals must be filed on or before April 1st of the current year, or 45 days from the date that the Assessments Notices were mailed, whichever is later.
