Girl Scouts

We have over 300 girls in 32 troops encouraged and led by over 50 adult volunteers. Girl Scouting begins in Kindergarten with our Daisy Girl Scouts and continues through high school.

RVGS has enjoyed participating in our River Vale Town Day in October, "River Vale Day." Last year's coat drive held was a huge success. Our town-wide program includes our always popular Halloween trunk or treat. This costume extravaganza is open to all children and is run by RVGS as a community service. There are games and a fun time for all.

October 31st is Juliette Gordon Low’s birthday, or Founder’s Day, which marks the birth in 1860 of the Girl Scouts of the USA.

November is the month of Thanksgiving and our leaders, girl scouts and parents team up to prepare and collect for 20+ baskets of food to feed our families that need Thanksgiving meals. All done through the River Vale food pantry.

December is Toy Drive collection month with donation boxes located around the town.  Perhaps you donated? Thank you!  We ship most of the donations to Cheyenne Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and distribute the remainder locally to Hackensack Hospital.

World Thinking Day is February 22 and troops celebrate in a variety of ways from fun with food, dress and skits to reading and learning about different countries.

The Mother/Daughter (March) event is open to ALL of our girl scouts and this year we are expecting a fun-filled night with “just the girls.”

We also run a themed Sweetheart Dance (April) that is open to non Girl Scouts and their “dads.”  The dance is our most popular event and our organizers do an amazing job.

Our Leader/Daughter event (June) is always a great time celebrating our Leaders and their daughters who so generously share their moms all year long.

Community service is an important part of Girl Scouting. Our individual troops hold food and clothing collections throughout the year. Many people are helped through their efforts and the girls learn the value of caring and sharing. Our troops enjoy arts and crafts, exploring nature, cooking and traveling.
