When people ask if you like to play games – do you automatically think of ones that don’t involve video game controllers? Do you have a hard time organizing enough people to play the games you love? Are you looking for new things to do this Winter? The Township of River Vale is excited to offer an opportunity for adults to come together for a GAME PLAYING DAY in anticipation of creating social groups that play games at the community center. In order to appropriately design and build a regular GAME PLAYING CLUB at the community center, we first need to know who in the community is interested in coming, what games they like to play, and when they are available. We’re talking, Chess, Scrabble, Mah Jong, Pinochle, Bridge, Canasta, Magic: The Gathering, etc. The GAME PLAYING DAY on Sunday, Feb 25th from 5-7pm is your chance to show your interest and weigh-in on this new offering. Come out to play games, meet some people and talk to a town representative to let us know what you’d like to see. We’ll have tables set up with games, opportunities to socialize, experts offering sign-ups for lessons in Chess and Mah Jong, as well as pizza and snacks. Snow Removal Reminders Our streets must be cleared from curb to curb. Sometimes this takes many passes with our plows and, to the dismay of some residents, sometimes snow that they cleared from their driveway gets pushed back into it. In order to avoid clearing your driveway twice, pile snow on the left side with you facing your house, or your driveway (see illustration above). Please be advised that the garbage collection by Buldo Brothers Sanitation scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, February 13, is being postponed to Friday, February 16 due to the expected winter storm. Do not place garbage cans at the curb this evening. Thank you and be safe.

PSEG Gas/Waters and Bugsbee will be continuing to work on Cedar Lane and will be working in the Cedar Lane/Demarest Avenue intersection this week. This will cause a closure at Demarest Avenue/Cedar Lane and Hillsdale Avenue/Cedar Lane. River Vale Police Officers will be present to conduct traffic control and assist residents who reside in the affected area in accessing their homes/businesses. Please follow the posted detours. First quarter 2024 property taxes now due. The last day to pay without penalty is Monday, February 12, 2024. It is recommended that you utilize the following methods to make your payment: 1. Drop Off / Mail in Checks: You can mail in or drop off your check using the drop box mailbox at the front door of Town Hall, which is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please include your tax stub with your check in a sealed envelope. Checks should be payable to the “Township of River Vale”. Please DO NOT leave any cash in the tax payment drop box. If mailing your payment and you would like a receipt, please include your entire tax bill with a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Post-Dated Checks: By statute, our office is required to deposit payments as soon as they are received and we cannot accept “post-dated” checks, therefore, please date your check the day you write it out, just as you would if you were paying in person. 2. Online Bill Pay from your bank: Please be aware payments that you initiate with your own bank through online bill pay should be scheduled in advance of any due date to allow a sufficient number of mailing days for the Township to receive, process and apply the payment to your account. Bank payments made from online bill pay are sent through the mail. The Township is not responsible for late payments due to delays in mail service or bank processing. Please include your Block and Lot, Last name and/or property address in order for us to apply the payment to the correct account. 3. Electronic Check or Credit Card: Directly from the Township’s website https://wipp.edmundsassoc.com/Wipp/?wippid=0253 Fees are as follows: ACH or e-check: $1.50 per transaction Debit or Credit cards: 2.65% of the payment 4. Direct Debit - ACH/Direct Withdrawal The Tax Collector’s Office now offers an Automated Clearing House (ACH) bank draft program (direct withdrawal) to our taxpayers. This service assures your payment will be received in a timely manner as well as providing a safe and secure way to pay your taxes without the worry of mail delivery or coming to pay in person. Registration is now OPEN for Winter Yoga with Michele! Classes will be held Thursday evenings at 6:45 at the River Vale Community Center at 628 Rivervale Road.
