Township of River Vale

The River Vale Fire Prevention Bureau’s primary responsibility is fire safety throughout the Township of River Vale. We strive to prevent fires and reduce the loss of life and property due to the devastating effects of fire. To accomplish this goal, the Fire Prevention Bureau is charged with the following services:

• Enforcement of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and local ordinances.

• Conduct fire inspections of all commercial occupancies, multiple dwellings and non-owner occupied one and two family dwellings.

• Perform fire investigations to determine the cause of all fires.

• Investigate all complaints received pertaining to fire safety.

• Actively work in cooperation with other local, county and state agencies.

Obtaining a Certificate of Smoke Detector, Carbon Monoxide Alarm & Kitchen Fire Extinguisher Compliance

• One- and two-family dwellings that require a Certificate of Smoke Detector, Carbon Monoxide Alarm, and Kitchen Fire Extinguisher Compliance for the sale of the property or a change in occupancy are inspected by the Fire Prevention Bureau prior to the issuance of that certificate.
